“That’s my dad!”
Probably the most talked-about incident of the Democratic convention was Tim Walz’ son Gus standing up in the audience and emotionally responding to his father on stage.
Pointing to his father with tears in his eyes, the 17-year old neurodivergent son of Tim and Gwen Walz burst out with his now-famous utterance, “That’s my dad!”
From all I’ve seen, the vast majority of those who witnessed this scene found it heartwarming and endearing. But a small number of people online and in the media ridiculed Gus, and received a great deal of condemnation in so doing.
Many people are saying this exemplifies the difference between Harris and Trump supporters. I doubt that most Trump supporters would approve of making fun of Gus, but it is nonetheless telling that some MAGA partisans are using it to discredit and attack Walz and the campaign.
I believe a lot of honorable, old-style Republicans turn a blind eye to the abhorrent ideas and behaviors of their de-facto new bedfellows in today’s MAGA-dominated party.

“Make America Kind Again” has been in circulation a long time, at least since 2016. I hope the Harris-Walz campaign puts it on blast. I cannot think of a better campaign slogan.
