Whole New World

Re-inspired by Bobby Kennedy

About a year ago I wrote a short essay featuring Robert F. Kennedy, and in revisiting it a few days ago on RFK’s 99th birthday, I felt saddened once again by his tragic death, which hit my 21-year-old self like a sledge hammer in 1968.

Robert F Kennedy, Sr. Also, in re-reading the essay, I was inspired yet again by Bobby’s life and legacy. So I thought I’d revise the essay a bit and put it here on Whole New World. In these tough times, as many of us struggle to come to terms with entering Trump 2.0, I hope you will find, as I did, a hopeful message in the life of one of my most revered role models.

The dream lives on. It was never going to be easy, of course. But…

Tuesday’s result was both unexpected and, of course, a hard shake-up of my reality. As it was and continues to be for many if not most of us. How could I have so badly misread the pulse of my fellow citizens, I keep asking myself.
Whole New World
I’m seeing a lot of interesting commentary about what this means, what we can and must learn from this setback, and how and where we go from here. I have just started working on an essay on this Big Subject, and will share it when it’s completed. Still thinking and absorbing.

I’ll also be doing more reading/listening/reflecting, paying some overdue attention to other tasks and people, getting a little R&R … etc.

But the dream of a Whole New World, and my faith in our ability to create this world, is still alive if not-seeming-too-well.

D-Day is Upon Us!

As I announced in my October 7 post, I have put Whole New World on the back burner while I have been swallowed up by a new paid-work assignment. Since then, to put it mildly, a lot has happened in the presidential campaign!

While I won’t attempt to comment on the wild and momentous events over these past few weeks, I will go on record now, just a few days from Election Day, with my prediction of the result and my reasoning behind it. And I invite you to offer your own prediction and perspective on the election in the Comments section at the end of the post.

I will continue posting, if sporadically for now, whatever the result on November 5. And I fully intend to return to more active posting at some point.

OK… so who do I believe is going to win? While the race is closer and tougher than I first believed it would be, I still believe Kamala Harris is going to be elected, and here’s why:

A Change of Short-Term Plans for the Blog

Looks like I will be backing off from this effort for a while. I have a new paid-work assignment that is demanding essentially all my time. So I won’t be posting often for now.

My hope and plan is to return sometime after the election of Kamala Harris – and I remain confident – and address the ongoing challenge of creating a Whole New World where honesty, integrity, kindness, justice, and compassion are valued as our highest principles.

As I see it, the election of Harris is an essential ingredient to making this quest viable.
