The burden of citizenship is accepting that what is not your fault may be your problem.”
– Anand Giridharadas
In this clip from this morning’s edition of Morning Joe on MSNBC, Joe Scarborough interviews Anand Giridharadas, one of my trusted sources of views and opinions. They talk about our most urgent issue, which extends beyond the election: Bringing the country back together after Kamala Harris wins on November 5. Below the Morning Joe clip linked above, Anand’s essay expounds on their MSNBC discussion.
I agree with this point of view 100 percent.
Yes, we must first do all we can to win the election. But then, as Joe and Anand eloquently discuss, we are still left with 80 million of our fellow citizens who are committed to Trump’s authoritarian policies and practices. And we must do all we can to bridge this divide. Indeed, this is close to the heart of the vision of this website:
Creating a ‘Whole New World’ where compassion, mutual respect, and a commitment to talk with each other, even and especially across our political divide – that is, engage in genuine dialogue – becomes the norm.
We have our work cut out for us. We can do this.
