Introducing…
A Whole New World
Dare We Hope?
by Fel Jones August 12, 2024
As a committed Democrat since the mid-1970s, I have been thrilled and amazed these last few weeks by the accelerated ascent of Kamala Harris to the pole position in the 2024 presidential race. So thrilled, in fact, that on July 27 – just six days after Joe handed the reins to Kamala – I started this blog.
My excitement about this unprecedented turn of events extends beyond the immediate politics, as I believe we are experiencing a historic and possibly transformative sociopolitical development that holds real potential to help heal our troubled nation and contribute to a better world.
In an August 1 blog post, A Politics of Compassion, I wrote:
The possibility of electing Kamala Harris re-kindles a deep-seated, long-suppressed yearning in the collective heart of the American citizenry, indeed of all humanity: the desire for a better world, where principles like honesty, kindness, respect, and compassion are honored and nourished.”
The vision of a better world has been a central element of my idealistic makeup my entire life. And that optimistic idealism – coupled with being an unabashed political junkie – gives birth and structure to the Whole New World Blog.
Through November 5, 2024, the central focus will be the effort to elect Kamala Harris. An underlying theme of the blog will be seeing this campaign as the onset of a ‘transformative sociopolitical development’ and commenting on news and developments through that lens.
Once Harris wins the election – as I am predicting she will, decisively – the breadth of subject matter here will grow accordingly. After all, the mission to “heal our troubled nation and contribute to a better world” is a complex, multifaceted, enormously challenging undertaking. And I eagerly anticipate commenting on and, together with millions of fellow Americans, contributing to that honorable mission in the months and years ahead.

The primary content on the site – the Whole New World Blog – offers my ongoing commentary, organized in Categories. I post almost every day and more often most days.
The About Me page provides a brief overview of my background and political leanings – with a word about the Trump era – plus links to additional personal information.
I invite you to join me in commenting on, dialoguing about, and engaging in this historic American moment. All posts and pages here are open to your comments. Please jump in!
